cuteness captured!

Cohen is cuter than EVER! really. he gets cuter. Laughing and smiling all the time. He's an angel. Life is so good right now... I didn't take people seriously when they said it would get easier during the difficult newborn stage but it really does! Cohen is so fun now.

Thank Heaven for Vacuum Cleaners!

Cohen never naps well unless he is in his carseat in a moving vehicle or in a shopping cart... that is until today! He's been asleep for an hour and a half... in his crib! The vacuum has been on the entire time. Our $300 vacuum at that. We better figure out another way before it blows up.

Blessing Day!

Today was Cohens Blessing! It was so beautiful. Marcel did such a great job and I am so thankful that he holds the priesthood and is able to bless our family. His nerves were getting to him just a bit but we fasted for him that he may be led by the Spirit and he most definitely was. I was so overjoyed to be able to have this experience with our son. My uncle Phil and Marcel's brother Jadi, our friends Joe,Sam, and Ben stood in. He was blessed with the ability to bring happiness to those around him as well as gratitude and service. That he will be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. That he may persue an education and serve our Heavenly Father by going on a mission. That someday he will enter the House of the Lord with his spouse and that he will return to live with our Father in Heaven once again. I want to document all of the wonderful things that we have to look frward to with our son. I feel so blessed to have one of Heavenly Fathers choice spirits in my home. he is such an angel and truly brings us closer as a family and brings us so much joy. He always manages to make us smile constantly no matter how tired we may be.

2 months!

Today Cohen had his two month doctors appointment. He did so great while getting his shots. He layed there on the bed quietly looking around when th nurse stabbed him with the needle ... then he screamed! once he realized his binky was still in his mouth he started sucking away like nothing happened. It was adorable. He even smiled his first realsmile on sunday. it was the cutest. It stayed therefor a good 30 seconds and we haven't seen another that big since. opefully we will soon because it was the most beauiful sight. Our only complaint is he's not the best sleeper which I think is because his little tummy can't hold very much food. He still eats every two hours and the middle of the nght is no different. Lets cross our fingers he sleeps better soon so we have an even happier mommy and daddy!

Just can't get enough...

1 Month!

Our little guy is 1 month old and growing like crazy! He's actually outgrown a few of his premie clothes and is filling out his newborn clothes much better. He's over 8 pounds now but its hard to tell because he's so long! He was 21 1/4 when he was born so who knows how long he is now...

This month Cohen...

Has become very alert and stares at the skylights, mobile & mom and dad's face!

He grunts constantly, especially while pooping! its so cute.

He's started trying to make noises other then grunting and crying.

When we have him on our shoulder to burp him he holds his head up nice and strong and when on his tummy he can lift it and turn it the other way.

He loves being sung to.

He sleeps much better in bed with us especially on my chest. (we on the other hand don't)

Two weeks with Cohen!

He's all ready to go!
I don't think he wanted to be disturbed.

So this is how he fit in my belly!

He was sleeping like this. He must've been hungry!

This is when he had to be on the UV lights for his jaundice. I love his little hands!

I love that litte grin!

He's beginning to really like bathtime!

Cohen has been such a joy to have in our home. He is so funny and cute. He makes he funniest faces sometimes. We have to have the camera on hand at all times with this little guy. It's been interesting getting to know him and seeing him develop. He's beginning to have more awake times which he spends looking around at the skylights we have in the ceiling. Every now and then he focuses on mine and marcel's face for a second or two. Our favorite is after he has been fed we lay with him for awhile and watch him as he's half asleep with a full belly because we can usually catch him grinning away. His whole face lights up when he smiles. I can't wait until he smiles on purpose! The best feeling in the world is after he has eaten I lay him on my chest and he usually snuggles up right under my chin, curls his little legs up to his tummy and lays his hand on my chest and sleeps away... most late nights I prop myself up with pillows and just leave him there so I can savor those little moments. I try not to bring him in our bed often but during the day when I nap with him I do and its so wonderful having him there to snuggle. He really likes to sleep with us too. He always sleeps a lot longer with us.. andwith a newborn thats like 3 1/2 hours which is a dream come true for me. Our first week with him was very harder and I'm convinced it was harder than it's suppose to be. Nursing Cohen the first week in the hospital was already really hard because he had to stay in the nursery for his jaundice and antibiotic treatment. When we brought him home he had already lost a pound in the hospital. By his first doctors appointment he hadn't gained any weight and I felt awful. I nursed him ever 2-3 hours and was exhausted and to know he was still losing weight was very discouraging. The pediatrician told me I needed to supplement with formula so we could get his jaundice cleared up and get him back to his birth weight. In one week we did it! He got back to 6lbs 8oz. In the meantime I had been meeting with lactation consultants to help me figure out why he wasn't gaining. He was growing really attached to the bottle unfortunately and I didn't know what to do. After several meetings they told me Cohen just wasn't sucking properly and I'd have to train him how to do it. It's been so frustrating and overwhelming. I've spent several days and nights just crying because I want him to breastfeed so much but he's frustrated too because he's hungry! I'm still trying now and then to nurse but the bottle is just getting easier and more enjoyable for all of us. I thought the whole point of breastfeeding was to bond with your baby but for us it has turned into a very stressful time so I'm trying to just find peace in knowing I tried. Really REALLY hard! Since introducing formula into Cohens diet it has made life a lotmore pleasant for all of us and we've been able to see a much happier and content baby... not just a starving cranky one. We love him either way but we all sleep a whole lot better now.

Introducing Mr. Cohen Leao!

Our little bundle surprised us 2 1/2 weeks early! With the lack of sleep we've been adjusting to blogging has been put on the back burner for a bit... but I will make sure to keep posting new pictures of our "baby chicken nugget" as my cousin nicknamed him :)

Lucky #6!

Marcel's dream came true last night. 311 has been his favorite band since high school and maybe even before that and he had the priviledge of seeing them play in concert for the 6th (my 3rd)time last night. It was a great show! We had great seats on the floor but unfortunately I was afraid that little Cohen would be born deaf soooo... Mal and I left Marcel and his bro Jadi and our friend Joe to sit in the farthest place from the stage which happened to be where everyone was getting high. Probably not the best thing for my little guy either but oh well. After the show was over our friends got us backstage which was way awesome.... until they told us that we couldn't meet any of they guys cuz they had already taken off. As we were making our way out Nick Hexum happened to walk right passed us he glanced over and being the nice guy that he was stopped to chat with us and Marcel even snagged a picture with him! We kept walking and sure enough Tim Mahoney crossed paths with us too! We even introduced him to Cohen, his soon to be 2nd biggest fan (next to Marcel of course) He was a super nice guy. He spent quite sometime talking to us. Anyway, that was a great way to end an already really fun time. Oh and my favorite part of the night... seeing freakin Snoop Dogg! Random I know, but pretty awesome!
